Training To Win - Week 3

You can’t just try to be like Jesus—you have to train for it. In Part 3 of our “Life on Purpose” series, we’ll explore the critical difference between trying and training. Trying is often inconsistent and driven by emotion; training is intentional, consistent, and guided by the Spirit. Only one leads to real, lasting growth.

God’s goal for your life is Christlikeness (Romans 8:29). He has predestined a purpose-filled path for you—but He won’t force your steps. He’s set the table; now you must choose to eat. Training is how you respond to His call.

Training also produces fruit—not by accident, but by spiritual discipline (Galatians 5:22-23). Love, joy, peace, patience, and all the fruit of the Spirit aren’t instant results of salvation, but cultivated evidence of a Spirit-led life. Rotten attitudes and toxic habits are signs of neglect, not destiny.

Finally, real training begins underground—by staying rooted in Christ (Colossians 2:6-7). Roots determine fruit. Shallow spirituality is easily shaken, but deep roots in Jesus bring strength, growth, and gratitude. When you’re led by the Spirit (Romans 8:14), growth becomes your natural response—not forced effort.

If you want to win spiritually, stop just trying. Start training.
