Faith When You Can’t See the Finish Line

Welcome to Week One of our new Christmas sermon series, “Jesus and the Griswolds.” This lighthearted yet meaningful series reminds us that our messy family moments might have more in common with the Bible than we think. Just like the Griswolds’ chaotic holidays, Jesus’ own family line was full of imperfect people whom God used to accomplish His perfect plan.

This week’s message, “Faith When You Can’t See the Finish Line,” explores what it really means to trust God when life doesn’t go according to plan. We’ll look at Clark Griswold’s determination to create the “perfect Christmas”—and how his best-laid plans quickly collapsed into chaos. In the same way, we often set our hearts on a dream, only to watch it unravel.

Through the story of Abraham’s call in Genesis 12:1–9, we’ll learn that faith isn’t about having all the details—it’s about trusting the One who holds them. God told Abraham to “Go” without showing him the full plan, and Abraham obeyed with no debate or delay. Faith lives in that kind of obedience—trusting the Who even when we don’t know the how.

This week, be encouraged to take your next step of faith, even without seeing the finish line. Because true faith doesn’t wait for clarity—it moves forward trusting the Planner.
