The sermon titled "A Place To Become" in the "I Love My Church" series explores the vital connection between belonging and becoming more like Christ. Drawing from Acts 2:42-47, we see the early church as a place where believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, prayer, and sharing in the Lord's Supper. This devotion not only nurtured a deep sense of community but also led to miraculous signs, generosity, and daily spiritual growth.
To belong to Christ’s church is to enter into a transformative journey. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, anyone in Christ is a new creation. However, true spiritual growth requires both belonging and becoming. Without belonging, our spiritual development can turn into self-condemnation; without becoming, belonging can lead to complacency. God's ultimate goal is to shape us into the likeness of His Son (Romans 8:29). He uses every circumstance in our lives to produce Christ-like character, marked by the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). In this sermon, we explore how the church is not only a place to belong but a place to become all that God has called us to be.
