June 5th & 6th, Our Very Own FUSION students from 4 different churches in Lafayette will forgo one of a teenager’s great delights: food.
Students will fast for 30 hours to shine a light and for a moment step into the shoes of millions of children around the world who go to bed hungry, which has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joining more than 75,000 teenagers from some 2,000 churches nationwide, FUSIONS youth will participate in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine event. The event will bring together tens of thousands of teenagers who will devote a weekend to fasting, prayer and service to fight hunger.
Fasting from food for 30 hours, teens will spend the weekend, at Innovation, learning about the impact of hunger on children around the world and volunteering in their own communities.
The teens will have prepared for the event by raising money for World Vision food and nutrition programs. Since its start in 1992, American teens have raised some $188 million through participation in the 30 Hour Famine event.
Students at Sunrise & CRC have participated in the famine in the past and have had GREAT results.
This year, during their fast, the students will participate in service projects benefitting SPECIFIC LOCAL CHARITIES as well.
World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine is in its 30th year of young people making an impact on the global hunger crisis. Thirty years ago, 1 in 6 people suffered from hunger compared to 1 in 12 people today.
Much progress has been made, but there’s still more work to do as much of this progress is threatened by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
